I love Horror. This is not my first Hunter Shea Horror that I have read. Regardless of how different storylines are, his books are dark and for as an avid Horror reader well worth the time spent reading it.

First of all, a warning of sorts; this horror is not just dark but it has elements that can be difficult for some people to read (there is possible cannibalism, etc). I will leave it at that.

‘Misfits’ is about a group of friends from lower-income families and bad families or bad environments at home, who have come together when their friend gets raped. This group of friends decides to get revenge/retribution for it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the plot. There are deaths, blood. Families destroyed. The plot was very well built, kept me guessing until the end. The suspense and Mystery were slowly revealed. That being said I had to take breaks in between because of how dark it was. But still, I do not regret continuing to read it.

I absolutely loved that this actually had some kind of HEA. Yes, there were a lot of deaths but there was a somewhat happy ending. It is a ‘Somewhat happy ending’ because the survivors went through hell and lost most of the friends and family to get to safety.

Climax, WOW! That is all I am going to say. I was riveted to those last couple of chapters.

I wanted a Horror. I got one. I will recommend this to hardcore horror fans who can take the blood and gore.

An Intense Thriller with a mystery dating back thousands of years. 

Five of the world's top scientists are brought together for reveal the mystery of the bones with the misshapen and deformed skulls found all over.

The mystery of the deformed skulls was caught my eye from the start and what put me through until the end. And it was very much satisfying in a way. Definitely worth reading if you are into Indiana Jones/Monsters/Aliens, blood and gore and death. 

The book is Sci-Fi/Thriller turned horror. The first half of the book, In my opinion, is more thriller while the second half was more horror. It was a good balance of the Horror and Sci-Fi for me. 

Though the Science-Fiction was difficult to understand, I understood the gist of it which propelled me to move forward. Even with the big Science explanations that went over my head, the horror for me more than made up for everything. 

Subhuman has a multi-pov that I usually try to avoid. In this case, The beginning of the book became confusing at first however, Mr. McBride did a wonderful representation of all of the characters as later on it became a lot more easier to read for me. 

I glided through the rest of the book. 

Since this is a series, it very much looks like it needs to be read in order from the start. Which can be great thing if you are not just looking for a One Stop Horror. The series for me is something to keep in my lists of Horror novel series to track and read.

Review:

The Haunting of Hill House was something I found out about while I was going through a couple of classics. Our School Library was small, we did not have a lot of books. Now after reading this I know that a lot of these young kids are missing a lot of good books since they are not available here or some of us have not heard of those books.

Let's set that aside for now.

When I started reading it, I was skeptic.I have read a lot of gory and hide under the bed sheet kind of horror novels, so I was not sure exactly what this would give me.

The beginning was a buildup and a suspense. But the book also gave a lot about the character. Including Eleanor and Theodora. Then there is Lucas. Dr. Montague and his wife. His wife. Halfway through the book I met his wife. And that was when I realized how good Shirley Jackson was in writing. The characters for me came alive. I started to doubt Eleanor. I started to think that she was actually doing some of these incidents. And Mrs. Montague. She gave me whole range of emotions. Like happy in a way that she was thinking about the dead. But annoying. So..soooo Annoying! I got to say it has been some time since I was actually this much annoyed at a character.

All in All, A great read for teens or anyone who wants to venture into the Horror realm.
